After an oddly strong January, it feels like the new releases are starting to slow down a bit. There are only a couple things that caught my interest this week (see: A Novelist, Critical Defiance), but hey, that’s just me. Critical Defiance – Misconception (Unspeakable Axe) [Thrash]

Unspeakable Axe, perpetual purveyors of pestilence that they are, are bringing us some prime thrash this Thursday courtesy of Chile’s Critical Defiance. Even by South American thrash standards, this album is vicious– the shouted vocals carry a primal snarl that you just don’t hear from their genre peers, and the guitar work vacillates between raw aggression and precision shredding. I don’t get excited about thrash very often anymore, but holy shit is this intense. Do not skip this. 2/7/19 (Spear)
