This Toilet Tuesday (4/13/21)
Toilet Tuesday again, and we’ve got all your new music needs covered right there. Hans and I have some chill (and a lot of not-so-chill) picks to perk your ears, and there’s a fair bit more new music to check down in the list. Have at it, and let us know what you’re spinning this week.
Cosmophobe – Neo-Terran Dystopia (Independent) [Tech Deathcore]

We’ve all heard solo projects that use drum computers that sound just a little bit too machine-like. This solo project takes it a step further and makes absolutely everything sound like it was done with a computer. Everything sounds polished to an inhuman sheen, everything is executed with clinical precision. And surely a computer must be behind this, because no human would pick synths that sound like a god damn recorder, right? Right? Anyway, it makes for a bizarre listen where I can’t tell if the sound design is a result of technical limitations or the exact opposite—a computer that has become too powerful—or maybe just keeping with the album’s theme. 4/17/21 (Hans)
Septycemia – Yersinia Pestis (Pathologically Explicit Recordings) [Brutal Death Metal]

Always nice to see brutal death that keeps it relatively tasteful (from what I can tell so far; maybe the rest of the record is littered with gross samples). There’s a lot of other stuff to like here, such as the extremely chunky sound with a thicc low end, the awesome transition into the first breakdown, or just the fact that the band gets a lotta shit done in only two and a half minutes. Last but not least, there are the extremely sick vocals that achieve that kinda pitch that makes your stomach feel slightly queasy, an effect I’d only experienced with Gravitational Distortion so far. Crown – The End of All Things (Pelagic Records) [Synth-Driven Post-Metal]

I know very little about Crown other than that Metal Archives lists them as a sludge/doom band, and that’s not at all what this record is. No, this is shaping up to be more an industrial outing, a fusion of retro synth and post-metal with some smooth goth rock singing. Whatever you want to call it, it’s got me intrigued; I’ll let you listen to it and judge for yourself rather than mangle their image through inadequate descriptors. 4/16/21 (Spear)
