This Toilet Tuesday (7/20/21)
Is it Toilet Tuesday again already? Feels like we just had one of these. Anyway, it’s another fairly light week in terms of volume of releases, but there’s some good stuff to be had here. I haven’t had the time to delve into all I’ve wanted to hit yet, so let us know what you’re jamming today and what else we have to look forward to this Friday.
Flame, Dear Flame – Aegis (Eisenwald) [Doom]

Epic doom doesn’t normally seem like the type of music you turn to for any feeling other than exultation, but Flame, Dear Flame have something as melancholy and strangely nostalgic as it is grand. There are touches of classic rock and metal in their sound- think stuff like Blackmore’s Night, the quieter parts of Rainbow, and maybe a wee bit of Jethro Tull (specifically Broadsword)- but it doesn’t feel like a throwback act at all. The two preview tracks are pretty chill even at their peaks; it’s an interesting experience, and you can bet I’ll be spending some time with this when it releases. 7/23/21 (Spear)
