Outward Streams of Devotional Woe perches somewhere between Pallbearer‘s muted, melodic doom and the hazy dissonance of Suffering Hour. These disparate sounds ricochet off each other, but A.S. (ex-Feral Light) is able to channel the chaos into (relatively) compact songs that unnerve as often as they entice. While the production is far from “cavernous,” there’s a feverish shimmer of reverb enshrouding the album, evoking thoughts of forbidden rituals and planes beyond our perception.
