This Toilet Tuesday (2/2/21)
Toilet Tuesday time, come get your new tunes. The dry spell we typically see for new music at the start of the year was much shorter than usual, and we’ve got a populous list of a diverse set of releases today. Hans and Karhu have grabbed a couple you might want to check out, and there’s a lot more to be had below.
Alkerdeel – Slonk (Babylon Doom Cult) [Black Metal/Sludge]

What wonderful onomatopoeia we have on this album. “Slonk! Zop! Trok!” Adam West would be proud. Alkerdeel play some absolutely rotten black metal equally infused with punk as it is with sludge. The preview track here can drag in places, but comes up with a nice switchup just when it gets too monotonous. Second track “Eirde,” streaming on the band’s on BC, is a shorter and more straightforward affair. Both are fun and sound great. Also gotta applaud outright comparing the release to a pile of shit in the press text. 2/5/21 (Hans)
Uncertainty Principle – Sonic Terror (Xenoglossy Productions) [Hideous Noise]

A. White is perhaps best known today for the chaotic, raw black metal noise that he creates with Vessel of Iniquity. But before VoI, there was Uncertainty Principle, and what has once been, shall be again. Mixing the slow, crushing groove of sludge with the glacial pace of funeral doom and burying it beneath layers of harsh noise, Uncertainty Principle creates droning, ambient like structures that evoke Godflesh played at fraction-speed, especially when the drawn out lead guitars hit, or the newer trend of deathcore, where breakdown engulf entire songs and albums, essentially becoming the entire band. But the groove has been cut off, and the breaks do not down. There is only the steady movement of a steamroller. And all there is to do for you, before it’s unrelenting crush, is to despair, like a henchman in Dr. Evil’s lair, watching for minutes, solid, unmoving, screaming, as fate becomes you. 2/5/21 (Karhu)
