This Toilet Tuesday (9/21/21)
You go about your morning business in a haze that mirrors the pervasive ash that has clouded the horizon all summer. The forecast says it will be dry as ever today, and you wonder in the back of your mind if you’ll see the fires that have burned across the continent reach your home. A part of you is morbidly curious to see the sky cloaked in red. As you go out to retrieve the garbage bins from the curb, a crackle of thunder stirs you from your thoughts. Looking up, you see a mass of clouds roiling overhead in defiance of the weatherman. Finally, you think, some rain.
The smell hits you before the first drops do, an acrid, sulfurous assault on your nostrils. You gag as the bile rises in your throat, and you feel the patter of rain on your skin. You look at your hand; is that… brown? Horrific realization dawns in you as you stare at the encroaching storm, and you can see the deluge of liquid shit approaching rapidly. You sprint back to your front door, praying to weather the oncoming storm and wishing the fire had simply gotten here instead.
The summer drought has ended. This is Toilet Tuesday.

Fuck it, I’m shilling OSDM revivalist music today. I know about half of you are burned out on this stuff and the other half never cared to begin with, but it’s always worth talking about it when a band does it well. Putrid Tomb differentiate themselves from the herd with substantially stronger riffing chops and an amorphous, frantic songwriting style belies the ponderous, chugging style their name might suggest. I’m not typically a fan of the “riff salad” approach to songcraft, but they make it work here; a solid mix and engineering job don’t hurt either. Definitely worth a listen if you still like to blast Tomb Mold and the like on the regular. 9/22/21 (Spear)
