Consumption – Catharsis (Dusktone) [Death]
Nothing gets me craving viscera like bands that meld Necroticism-era Carcass into their sound; in the case of Consumption, d-beats and doom join in for a truly shambolic affair. Catharsis lands with a splat on the (definitely real, definitely worth arguing about) line between death and melodeath, with harmonized riffs that carry emotional weight without veering into bombast. Grotesque, layered vocals help listeners remember that the album artwork includes bulbous-headed demon babies ripping a dude’s entrails out, so yes, there is still a heap of OSDM influence.
