Sisyphean – Divergence (Edged Circle Productions) [Black/Death Metal]
The third full-length (and first in 4 years) from these Lithuanian dissonant black metallers has me salivating from my jowls like Pavlov’s canine experimental subject. Their 2022 release Colours of Faith was a dense, yet emotionally engaging piece of black metal that impressively toed the line between head-bobbing grooves and synapse-severing atonality. With their new LP Divergence, Sisyphean have staked a worthy claim as the scene’s most underrated and underappreciated gem. Haunting mid-range rasps possess the guitar lines that lure you in as precise changes in underlying tones always keep you at a steady level of unease.
