SRiHKAL 2016 – Short Releases I Have Known And Loved (Part Two)
Around this time last year I ran a four-part series highlighting some of my favourite short releases that I found particularly intoxicating throughout 2015. The format was loosely based on the chemical cookbooks of Alexander Shulgin (TiHKAL & PiHKAL), because in the modern age dominated by the imposition of neo-conservatism, draconian drug laws mean the only legal way to experiment with anything fresh is through music. Thankfully the past 12 months saw another veritable glut of EPs, demos, splits and the like pulse through my bloodstream, often altering my consciousness in an inexplicable manner. As I’m sure you’ve already got on board with many of the more well-known short releases from the likes of Dead Congregation, Gorguts, Deathspell Omega, etc. I’m going to cover some of the bands that I think deserve some (more) coverage. As always, adjust your dose based on your age, weight, tolerance, and fingernail length.

IUPAC Name: Transmutation Of Wounds
Class: Barbiturate
Synthesis: On September 15th 2016 an international collective containing 6 well-recognised associates from Iceland, the USA, Italy, and France combined their extensive knowledge of their individual fields of study and created a potent pharmaceutical. The initial testing concentration proved to be quite toxic, well above the hypothesised LD50 based on similarly structured chemicals. Based on these early results, it is unclear whether further testing will occur, although the scientific community is highly interested in the project’s future.
Dosage: 2 tablets.
Duration: 16 minutes.
Symptoms: Severe anxiety, Paranoia, Convulsing.
Similar Compounds: VI, Skáphe, Aosoth.
Acherontas/Slidhr [Split]
IUPAC Name: Death Of The Ego/Chains Of The Fallen
Class: Opiate.
Synthesis: The 2nd of September 2016 saw one well established Greek conglomerate combine with a relatively recently formed Irish body to pool data/results and deliver a highly efficient combination of chemicals that proved to be a versatile replacement for many other common analgesics. The strengths of this combination lie in its extensive duration per dose, the shorter onset time, and the long plateau period. Expect this to remain a staple choice of pharmacists for the duration of 2017.
Dosage: 3ml/2mg.
Duration: 33 minutes.
Symptoms: Anxiolytic effects, Reduced inhibition, Delirium (in higher doses).
Similar Compounds: Malthusian, Acrimonious, Regarde Les Hommes Tomber.
Witte Wieven
IUPAC Name: Silhouettes Of An Imprisoned Mind
Class: Psychedelic
Synthesis: On January 10th a pair of Dutch botanists collected a flower sample from a previously undiscovered plant species. They were able to isolate three isomeric compounds from the ornately coloured inflorescence, and have spent the last year gathering data on their individual and combined effects. After a great deal of laboratory testing they concluded that the enantiomers present produced the most significant effect when taken together. When administered individually, the first isomer produces a moderate effect, but when combined with the second or third isolate, the symptoms are overwhelming, often sending the subject into an intense state of hypnotic hallucinosis.
Dosage: 3 dry grams.
Duration: 15 minutes.
Symptoms: Open-eye visuals, Synaesthesia, Ego dissolution.
