WE’RE BREAKING DOWN THE LEAKED RED DEAD REDEMPTION II TRAILER AHEAD OF E3!
Despite video game megashow E3 being only a few weeks away, a brand new trailer for the highly anticipated open world Western game Red Dead Redemption II just leaked on 4chan‘s infamous /v/ message board. Get in here to check it out before Rockstar Games gets it scrubbed from the internet.
We’re going to break this thing down frame by frame to see what kind of secrets we can glean from the footage, but before we do, let’s watch the whole thing!
WOW! This game looks totally massive! There’s a lot going on here, so let’s start at the beginning. This first scene seems to show a massive world. Can we explore all that?
This seems to be our first good look at the new protagonist, the outlaw Arthur Morgan. That’s definitely not John Marston. Also, that rock-scrabbling action makes me think Rockstar took a page from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s book to give players a greater degree of mobility. Maybe we can free climb?
We already knew John Marston, the protagonist of Red Dead Redemption, is definitely in this game. But his inclusion here looks pretty prominent. Will players be given the chance to control him?
HORSES! YES! Look how fluidly John is riding that horse! Looks like Rockstar somehow improved on the already incredible horseback programming!
Looking at these two sequences side-by-side, it appears that persistent whether effects will be part of the map. Will that affect gameplay? It looks like Marston has snow on his beard. Maybe the cold slows your movements?
Here we get a better look at the woman from the opening scene. Is this John’s wife Abigail (since she’d presumably still be alive in the prequel) or some other NPC?
Rumors cropped up in January at the Consumer Electronics Show that players would be able to consume plants in-game. One specific part of the rumor alleged that Arthur would be able to consume mescalin from cacti and experience ego death in the desert. I’m guessing that’s what’s going on here.
In addition to the edible plants, previous statements from the development team indicated we’d get to interact with even more animals in the environment than in previous games. I’m guessing we can tame more than horses this time!
Look at all the detail in the environment! The last trailer claimed the game would run at a native 60 fps in 4K ultra HD. Those snow effects look just as good as those in the new God of War game. Players are going to get a lot of their PS4 Pros with this game.
The way John reaches for his holster here leads me to think the duel system from the previous game will still be a central part of the experience in RDRII. The way this clip also seems to pit Arthur against John may hint at a revamped honor system!
This scene makes me think Arthur may be able to use emotes to interact with NPCs and earn honor in the game’s new Faction system!
Here’s some of that trademark gunplay for which the Red Dead series is so famous. So exciting!
It’s been confirmed that players will be able to unlock new emotes through a lootbox system or purchase them with Bounty Bucks, the game’s premium currency you can buy with microtransactions.
Here’s more of that persistent weather. Wow, what a game engine!
Is this indication of a revamped stamina meter for fast movement?
Hat toss mini-game?
Sneak peek of Day 1 DLC?
Wow, what a leak! This game looks incredible. Red Dead Redemption II drops October 26th. Try not to scream while you wait!
