Shirt Stains: Sevendust Calls You “Asshole”

Sevendust have been kicking around since the mid 90’s, but really made an impact in the late 90’s and early 2000’s with albums like Home, Animosity, and Seasons. Whether you consider them Nu-Metal or just hard rock, their ability to knock out radio-friendly bangers like Denial, Waffle, Praise, and Enemy helped elevate them over a lot of other bands from that era. They’re still around to this day with a new album slated to come out this year. It’s impressive to say the least, especially when you look at this early shirt.
This is the artwork for Sevendust’s breakout album Home. There’s nothing wrong with it. Sure the hand looks a little bit like it has leprosy and and the transparent band logo behind the main one makes it look like the band is called “Sevendusts”, but that’s fine. Album art as the t-shirt design is classic, especially if you love the album. It’s like a double advertisement for the band and for you. It’s the back where things get…ehhhh, just take a look.
Ooooooof. Big ooof. Maybe even a stretched out, gaping ooof. Now That’s What I Call Edgy Vol. 1. The thing about band merch is that you want your fans to wear it in public. The more people see it, the bigger the chance is that someone checks out your music, buys it, and sees you live. Having “I’M NOT VERY GOOD AT NAMES SO I’LL JUST CALL YOU ASSHOLE” on the back of your shirt supporting your breakthrough album is ummm probably not going to achieve that goal. That’s a one-way trip to the principal’s office.
