Holy shit, it’s Toilet Tuesday. After the steaming pile that was last week, I’m pleased to report that this week is substantially less shit. Hans and I have picked out a couple of bangers for your enjoyment, but as always, there’s plenty more in the big list below.
Outre-Tombe – Nécrovortex (Temple of Mystery) [Death Metal]

Is there anyone here who doesn’t like big, dumb death metal? No? Good. Outre-Tombe bring exactly zero new ideas to the death metal scene, but what they do bring is a heaping pile of quality riffs in both fast and slow flavors. There’s a substantial amount of grit in the vocals and strings section, and the drums keep the feel exactly where it needs to be at all times. Simple, but extremely effective. 10/19/18 (Spear)

Despite the silly name and the standard satanic shtick, these guys manage to stay a bit ahead of the competition in the genre by infusing everything with pretty strong influences of speed and even some classic metal. No falsettos or “epic” vibes, but the speed and flair of the compositions, not to mention the occasional melodies, are enough to elevate this above rote goat worship. Sadly, the preview song, sticking mostly to thrash riffs, isn’t the best example of this, so you might wanna check back on Friday. 10/19/18 (Hans)
