This Toilet Tuesday (3/23/21)
It’s Toilet Tuesday once more, and we’re bringing you some slamming jams this morning. Well, not slamming in the BDM sense, though there might be one or two of those down there, but slamming in the sense that they’re good. Anyway, we’ve got some choice cuts highlighted today, but overall this is a pretty solid week. If you don’t care for our picks, you’re likely to find something else to enjoy.
Celestial Sanctuary – Soul Diminished (Church Road Records) [Death Metal]
Listen
“New Wave of British Death Metal,” it says on the Bandcamp page, but that’s not a cheeky way of pointing to heavy metal influences. Rather, this is hardcore-tinged death metal prone to veer off into stomping rhythms and breakdowns. The second song crushes extra hard in that regard, relying mostly on mid-tempo grooves. Songwriting is versatile, and the vocal approach interesting enough (reverb is always a bonus in my book). I’m not sure about stylistic similarities with the other bands they shout out, but that, in itself, is a cool thing to do. 3/26/21 (Hans)
Rapture – Malevolent Demise Incarnation (FDA Records) [Thrash]

Satisfyingly brutal stuff that may not seem particularly original at first, but just when you think you’ve kinda heard it all before, they bring out an unexpected melody, some surprising synths, a little creative songwriting twist, or just a riff that hits a little different. And if all that doesn’t do the trick for you, there’s always the fact that they consistently go hard as hell. 3/26/21 (Hans)
Putrescine – The Fading Flame (Tridroid Records) [Death Metal]

You don’t often see a death metal band level up their grime game as quickly as Putrescine. This will be release number four (4) since 2019, and it seems like they get weirder and nastier with each iteration of their sound. It’s unpolished and abrasive, but done intentionally in a way that makes their jaunty riffs feel that much more alien. Goes well with blood of TERF. 3/26/21 (Spear)
