It’s Toilet Tuesday! Get you some new tunes. We’ve picked out a few gems from this week’s huge list for you to check out, but there’s definitely more good stuff than what we’re highlighting up here. Be sure to hit that list once you’ve gone through our recommendations.
The Death Wheelers – I Tread on Your Grave (RidingEasy Records) [Stoner Doom]

The album title promised something off the genre’s well-trodden paths, and the cover art followed suit. Indeed, this is not a relaxed one-chord-a-minute sort of affair, for TDW draw heavily on sleazy surf rock to inject their songs with some verve, much like Ghoul has done on their latest releases. Just, you know, more classy. And like Ghoul’s Hang Ten, these biker anthems are all instrumental with the occasional sample thrown in. I’m not sure this shtick won’t get old in the course of a whole record, but I daresay you won’t find anything finer for dropping your psychoactive drug of choice and committing vehicular manslaughter with your motorcycle. 5/11/18 (Hans)
Primal Waters – Primogenitor (Independent) [Thrash/Heavy Metal]

Much like with the Necropanther album we had on here a while back, I feel forced to draw comparisons to Skeletonwitch. Raspy, blackish vocals over pretty clean thrash with occasional blasting and a drop in vocal register down to a growl. This time though, maybe throw Barbarian into that FFO pool as well; as the tag indicates, it’s not all about speed and aggression, and the lyrics are fantasy-themed. While I wish everything was a tad more energetic at times, the overall approach and skill level on display are more than satisfactory. 5/11/18 (Hans)
Ekpyrosis – Primordial Chaos Restored (Terror from Hell Records) [Death Metal]

As has been discussed before, the slow song on a death metal record is invariably the best one. Ekpyrosis are aware of this, and they’ve devised a way to beat the system by making every song the slow song. Does this mean that they’ve written the best death metal album ever? Probably. Joking aside, Primordial Chaos Restored is gross, it’s slow (but not too slow), and it’s most definitely worth your time. 5/7/18 (Spear)
