Urne – Serpent & Spirit (Candlelight Records) [Metalcore]

Don’t let that genre tag fool you; this thing goes harder than just about everything else on the list today. “Desolate Heart” is a sprawling eight-and-a-half minute track that runs the gamut from scathing melodic riffing to emotive soloing to a doom-tinged breakdown near the end. It’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but it shows there’s still life in the metalcore scene. 6/25/21 (Spear)
