This Toilet Tuesday (7/29/25)

Upper Decker Deity, receive the bellowing of our fanfare most malodorous. This week, we’ve got Lingchi for wimps, CRUNGUS, and a filthy Lepidopteran. The list below may be short and stout, but as in life, not every offering is a bowl-curling anaconda; there are shining kernels aplenty for those willing to do their doodoo diligence. As always, let us know what we missed below!

Centuries of Decay – A Monument to Oblivion (Independent) [Prog Death]
A Monument to Oblivion occupies a space somewhere between Opeth and Atræ Bilis: extended-range dissodeath segments (with an emphasis on syncopation) burst from moments of quiet contemplation without disrupting the trajectory of each track. We’re left wondering what stylistic shifts await, but never why they happen, as each post-metal crescendo or abrupt pause serves to engage listeners. “To Dust”‘s latter half slowly builds from a barebones groove, adding layers of cymbal fills and clean vocals until its foundations begin to strain under the pressure; after a momentary lull, an off-kilter breakdown (replete with gnarly gutturals) comes as catharsis rather than an afterthought. From deathcore hammer blasts to melodeath melodrama, many genres have lent their chisels to this monument; I suspect both the curious and curmudgeonly will remember the name Centuries of Decay soon enough. -Roldy
