This Toilet Tuesday (8/20/19)
It’s another Toilet Tuesday, and it’s a damn fine one this week. There’s not a lot on our plate in terms of overall volume, but we’ve got solid showings of melodeath, power metal, doom, thrash, and then some this week. There should be a little something down there for you regardless of what you’re looking for, and as always, let us know if we missed anything that deserves to be heard.
Freedom Call – M.E.T.A.L. (Steamhammer) [Power Metal]
Listen to “111,” “M.E.T.A.L.”
Ignoring their recent aesthetic and nominative choices, Freedom Call has been an excellent purveyor of purest Teutonic power metal for decades. M.E.T.A.L may contend for their dumbest album title and the cover be only marginally better than the previous one, but goddamn if “Spirit of Daedalus” doesn’t keep up with their line of Gamma Ray’s finest, dumbest, funnest songs Kai Hansen never got around to write. 8/23/19 (Karhu)
Isole – Dystopia (Hammerheart Records) [Doom]
Stream
Hammerheart Records’ Bandcamp says that “fans of classic Doom Metal should beg, steal, or kill to get their hands on Dystopia.” Just a couple songs into the stream, I’m inclined to agree; Isole rocks the same vibe as Candlemass, with soaring vocals and crawling, calamitous riffs accompanied with some awesome lead work. If you need further convincing, just give “Beholder” a listen: it features some sweet interplay between the guitars and bass, and the double-time section near the end kicks ass. 8/23/19 (Spear)
