Greetings, friends, and welcome to another round of This Toilet Tuesday! It’s a bit on the slow side this week, but there are a couple great albums to be had. Stockhausen and I have picked out a couple of our favorites, but there are more yet below. Share your own picks and let us know if we missed anything!

Ayahuasca – Huayra (Independent) [Death Thrash]
Stream

Have you worn out your copy of Vektor’s Terminal Redux? Do you need something else after your 500th listen through Ripper’s Experiment of Existence? Ayahuasca has you covered. No, not that Ayahuasca. No, not that Ayahuasca either. The one from South America. Anyway, you can probably guess from the above comparisons that these guys show up to thrash. And thrash they do! Ayahuasca barrels head first through 36 minutes of absolutely ripping tunes, adding some extra muscle through a distinct death metal influence. A gorgeous dance-like song breaks up the momentum in the middle of the album, showcasing the band’s clear Colombian roots, and a strange groove moment makes an appearance in track 7. Minus those occasions, this album is an ever-expanding ball of fury. The raw, unhinged energy builds and builds (almost) to the end of the album, shoved forward through fire-spitting vocals and teeth-gritting riffs. The last track, however, subverts expectations and closes the album with a hauntingly tuneful song in a traditional Colombian style. This album is a ton of raucous fun from start to finish, and contains just enough variety and fury to never lose your interest. 9/3/16 (Stockhausen)

mesarthim

Mesarthim – .- -… … . -. -.-. . (Independent) [-… .-.. .- -.-. -.- / — . – .- .-..]
Stream

As with most things, I was a little slow on the uptake with MesarthimIsolate didn’t really resonate with me upon its release last year, but I’ve warmed up to spacey black metal a lot since then. As far as that goes, it really doesn’t get much better than this. Absence is great for gazing into the stars and contemplating the glorious insignificance of your existence, or just to use for chill background music (well, mostly chill, barring a weird breakdownish part near the end). There’s not much more I can say beyond what Joe, Randall, and 365 covered on yesterday’s podcast, so I’ll say this: go get it now. 8/28/16 (Spear)

Neurogenic – Ouroboric Stagnation (Comatose Records) [Brutal Death Metal]
Listen to “Spirited Bloody Emesis,” “Ouroboric Stagnation”

On their debut full-length, Neurogenic have created a death metal album so brutal it wasn’t allowed through customs. Seriously, we sent this promo to one of our writers a couple of months back, and the authorities just would not let it into their country. Fairly certain Ouroboric Stagnation was detained on the grounds that it is essentially a series of weaponised riffs designed to kill literally everything. Comprised of members from Russia, Ukraine, Italy, and the USA, Neurogenic play what I believe to be the near-perfect balance between guttural filth and extreme technicality; the ridiculous artificial harmonics on this album alone are worth the admission fee. Featuring a bunch of guest spots from musicians hailing from all over the world and more scintillating sonic savagery than you thought possible, this is not one to miss for fans of Disgorge (USA), Putridity (Italy), and Disentomb (Australia). 9/3/16 (Lacertilian)
