Meesa ain’t got time to bleed

Last week we smashed a bunch of 9th track riffs together for a 999 Edition. Unsurprisingly Slayer‘s manic classic ‘Postmortem’ murdered the competition. Good.

After recently getting the Predator boxset on 4k for Father’s day, I’ve been rewatching the trilogy and thought it could make a decent RotW theme. Let’s see if that was a good call.

Wesselbr
Morbid Angel – ‘Lion’s Den’ (Riff @ 2:51)

Covenant turned 25 this year and to me it is an unequalled masterpiece of extreme metal. Azagtoth throws riffs and solo’s around of a quality that other bands would still kill for. David Vincent roars like the titular beast and Pete Da Feet just dominates. My very favorite moment in this composition is the return to the groovy, double bass-laden part at 2:51.
Personal note: I am a zooworker and recently the male lion who has lived in our park for 19 years passed away at the ripe age of 20 (male lions in the wild often don’t grow older than 8 because of their violent lifestyle). I miss him and it would be a cool tribute if this song wins the vote this week!

Jimmy McNulty
Black Fast – ‘Progenitors of Predation’ (Riff @ 0:00)

Of all the great sections to nominate from this song, its intro riff is the real bread winner. But if that doesn’t exactly butter your biscuit, skip to 2:25 for what I would describe as “a breakdown written by adults”. Here’s Black Fast at their thrash metal prime.

Spear
Venom Prison – ‘Desecration of Human Privilege’ (Riff @ 1:26)

While I’d wager that this is the least “fun” variety of predator presented today, it does make for a mighty fine subject of revenge fantasy, which in turn makes for some bangin’ riffs. Get pissed and bang your damn head.

Howard Dean
Destroyer 666 – “Rise of the Predator” (Riff @ 0:58)

COME TASTE THE BLOOD
AND THE FEAR OF THE PREY
AS IT FALLS TO THE JAWS OF
THE BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAST!!!

Archdruid Grulog
Pantera – ‘Domination’ (Riff @ 3:50)

Because, you know, Pantera is Spanish for panther. And panthers are predators. Haha funny.

Lacertilian
Yautja – ‘an exit’ (Riff @ 0:00)

Don’t need to worry about a thematically appropriate song title when your band is named Yautja. The riff that opens this explosive little number is enough to devastate 300 city blocks.

Next week’s theme is Hole(s).
Once again, be as creative or as literal as you like.
