It is Toilet Tuesday once more, and now that I’m done coughing my lungs out, I can bring you piles of new tunes again. And this week is definitely a pile; we’re in the middle of October, when every metal band on earth has to puke out an album to try to make the year-end clusterfuck. Fortunately, that does mean we get a handful of good ones, and I’ve picked out a couple for you to check out here. Give them a listen and let us know what else is good.

Iron Reagan – Dark Days Ahead (Pop Wig Records) [Crossover Thrash]
Listen to “Patronizer,” “The Devastation”

I’ve never been super into Iron Reagan, but something about this EP is pushing all the right buttons. Have they always gone this hard and I’m only just now noticing? Whatever the case, this is some prime hardcore-tinged thrash, something I feel we’ve been sorely lacking in 2018 so far. 10/12/18 (Spear)

Solipsismo – Antología De Maldiciones (Independent) [Tech Death]
Listen to “Meruem”

Deviantart-tier Castlevania knockoff cover art aside, this new Solipsismo track has been rocking my socks. Guitarist Daniel Ortega put on an impressive show of skill with last year’s Sangre Antigua, and he appears to have upped both his writing and playing substantially with this new EP. If you like tech death that’s all about having fun, then you won’t be disappointed with this. 10/12/18 (Spear)

DungeönHammer – Infernal Moon (Pulverised Records) [Black Metal]
Listen

UGH!” – if that’s not all you’re expecting to hear from the moment you press play, it will be once the vocals set in, and the singer will not disappoint you. This is first wave black metal/black’n’roll heavily inspired by the mightiest beanie of them all. Though less of a snarl and more of a grunt, the Cetlic spirit notably haunts the vocal approach and many of the riffs. Many, not all; for as close as they get to their idols at times, they never fail to inject a playful thrash/punk vibe, which gives everything a lightheartedness that makes this just so much fun to listen to. 10/12/18 (Hans)

Akitsa – Credo (Profound Lore) [Black Metal]
Listen to “Espoir Vassal”

Do you dig raw Canadian black metal from the tomb? No? F.O.A.D Three years since they last released anything Akitsa’s back as raw as ever. Although Credo sounds a fair bit warmer that Grand Tyrans and the vocals are mor restrained in the mix and performance, perhaps owing to the fact they’re now signed with Profound Lore. As for the song itself, Espoir Vassal is every bit as no fucks given, second wave black metal in all it’s monochromatic majesty. 10/12/18 (Karhu)

Stam1na – Taival (Sakara Records) [Thrashy Prog]
Listen to “Enkelinmurskain”

After the critical and commercial smash hit of Elokuutio, I’ve been eagerly awaiting Stam1na’s next step of evolution. But now that Taival is soon here, I don’t know what to think of it. “Elämänlanka” is some of the most strictly modern sounding Stam1na, with rhythmic stop-start chug-riff heading for the antithesis of the last album – easily digestible, catchy, vocal-based and chorus centered song with heartfelt lyrics inspired by loss of a cherished friend, while “Enkelinmurskain” continues in similar manner, but with somewhat more usual Stam1na sound. I dunno how much just yet, but I dig this and Kake Velin is still a criminally undersung drummer. That’s two good reasons for you to check this out. 10/12/2018 (Karhu)

Terrorizer – Caustic Attack (The End Records) [Deathgrind]
Listen to “Invasion”

While it may be futile to wish upon a star for Terrorizer to even attempt to return to the times they wrote World Downfall, any friend of their new era works should not be left disappointed with Caustic Attack. Sandoval’s new line-up is slightly less mechanic than the last and proves their worth in sharp, grinding death metal riffs especially on the opening trio fo two-minuters (“Turbulence”/”Invasion”/”Conflict and Despair”) and the back-to-back one-minute ragers of “Caustic Attack” and “Poison Gas Tsunami”. Although it needs to be said that when the song lengths start reaching four and even five minutes, the songs begin struggling to carry themselves. Luckily, for the most part Terrorizer delivers their best material on this side of the millenium. 10/12/2018 (Karhu)
