This Toilet Tuesday (8/14/18)
Welcome once again to This Toilet Tuesday! We’ve got a particularly weird week this time, with a lot of releases that don’t quite fit the mold. Hans and I have selected a couple of the more interesting ones to sink your teeth into, so be sure to check those out before hitting the big list.
Supruga/Tsygun – Supruga/Tsygun (split- NIOS) [Grindy Sludge/Sludgy Grind]
Stream
It’s rare to come across a split where each band is so perfectly paired as this. Supruga and Tsygun both play slightly different takes on a sludgy, grindy death metal sound. Both are violent and dirty, and the riffs just keep coming. This is some really cool stuff and probably the best surprise of this week’s releases. 8/12/18 (Spear)
Tuscoma – Arkhitecturenominus (Muzai Records) [Black Metal]

Bright, slightly experimental black metal that rings out like a shrill alarm. Not interested in Satan and forests but rather the cold, angular spaces of the city – complete with the monotony that city life may bring with it. While the repetition doesn’t always seem to work in their favour, there’s enough outside-the-box ideas and surprises here to make it pretty exciting. 8/16/18 (Hans)
Rebel Wizard – Voluptuous Worship of Rapture and Response (Prosthetic Records) [Blackened Heavy Metal]

Rebel Wizard has been incredibly busy, with this being their fourth release since last year. Since we’ve somehow managed not to talk about any of them, the long and short of it is that their music is a weird mixture of black metal and heavy metal tropes. That said, describing it as simply being either of those isn’t quite accurate, either; it’s very much its own thing. Volupuous… follows the trends set by the last few albums, but it sounds a little nicer and is a bit more musically complex. It’s pretty interesting, definitely worth a listen. 8/17/18 (Spear)
