The Friday Catch-Up?
New weekly catch-up? Here’s a bunch of new albums I’ve been listening to this week, what fresh shit have you been jamming in your ears?
So..uhh…sorry (I’m not dead) I haven’t been able to do any posts for youse [Bogan for”y’all“] lately. Circumstances have been less than ideal for flushing. Leif Bearikson and I might get back to doing our podcast thing if we find time, and I will endeavour to continue our yearly polls sometime next month but aside from that my usual Toilet-Time™ remains restricted. However, the inbox still continues to get clogged with literally thousands of promos per week. Since I don’t own a plunger, I’m forced to manually remove them to keep things flowing. Rather than just spin, rinse, repeat, delete, I’ve started to do sporadic one-line reviews on Twitter (of all fucking places). Thought maybe I could turn it into more useful content by copy/pasting them over here once a week and sharing them with you flushers? Maybe you would like to do the same in the comments? I dunno. Here’s a few from this week.
Temple Of Void – The World That Was (out 27/3/20)
Underground death metal for guys too insecure to admit they’d rather listen to their Limewire/kaZaa-sourced BLS and Six Feet Under mp3 collection.
Intronaut – Fluid Existential Inversions (out 27/2/20)
It takes a special degree of experience and talent to create an album this simultaneously boring and actively irritating. FFO: Tool, The Ocean, sounds that should have died before 2010.
Wolvencrown – Of Bark And Ash (out now)
Ostensibly harmless drawn-out melodic 2nd wave for DSBM sadboys in denial.
Lunar Mantra – Psychosomatika [EP] (out now)
Their atmospheric elements have been subdued slightly in favour of a streamlined Sinmara sound until the final track (#3) where they’ve condensed all their shamanistic inclinations into a 9 minute ambient esoteric-yogafest.
Xeno Ooze – Parasligm Shift (out now)
If you like Slugdge‘s thematic but wished they grind’d n slam’d rather than shined n slimed then Xeno Ooze is made for you.
Hræ – Þar sem skepnur reika (out now)
Promising solo project debut featuring the caustic caterwauling guitars and narcotic-drenched dread we’ve come to expect from modern Icelandic fare. RIYL: Svartidauði, Martrođ, Skáphe, Guðveiki , etc..
Diplodocus – Slow And Heavy (out now)
Haven’t stopped listening to this one, don’t have much else to say other than it’d be fucken cool if this dino-synth shit explodes like the dungeon dork sub-genre did a few years ago.
