This Toilet Tuesday (10/1/18)
Here be the musics.
Bit of an impromptu list this week; be forgiving if it turns out we forgot a bunch of stuff. Just put it in the comments, as always. Your fellow Toileteers will bless you with the cryptocurrency called Updoots. Karhu and I had a look at some of these already, but there’s bound to be some nuggets (both brown and golden ones) down there. Happy diving!
One Tail, One Head – Worlds Open, Worlds Collide (Terratur Possessions) [Black Metal]
Listen to “Stellar Storms”
Worlds Open, Worlds Collide will hardly be met with the same enthusiasm that enveloped One Tail, One Head‘s two 2011 EPs, which is what may happen if you have four songs and fail to follow them up for the next seven years. Despite the lack of momentum, WO,WC is still very much what made those two EPs so good – feverish black metal that twists and contorts the second-wave origin of their music. A band that plays as much on the intensity of their music and contrast of their clashing instruments, as they do with singular motifs. It will not be the best black metal album released this year, but One Tail, One Head are at the height of their power – it would be amiss to pass on this because of time-waned interest. 10/5/18 (KARHU)
Deathhammer – Chained To Hell (Hells Headbangers) [Death/Thrash]
Listen to “Rabid Maniac Force”, “Threshold of Doom”
I’m pretty sure I checked out Deathhammer back when they were hyped by Fenriz and seem to remember finding them lacking. Here, however, they deliver some beautifully brutal thrash clearly inspired by Deathchain and Demolition Hammer, and yes, I only realised just now that’s probably the point of the band name. I’ll reference Condor in hopes of getting credibility back. The tempo throughout both songs is off the hook, as are the falsettos, and while it might not win thrash album of the year, I can certainly see riffs like the one at 3:27 in “Threshold of Doom” do some damage in the Saturday Riff Arena. 10/5/18 (Hans)
Slaegt – The Wheel (Ván Records) [Black/Heavy Metal]
Listen
Based on this one song alone, it’s hard to say whether Slaegt harnessed their knack for Dissection-styled melodies that embellished both, Beautiful and Damned as well as Domum so beautifully, and given penchance for changing gears a regularly, I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t – but The Wheel sure as sugar has got the “world’s funnest bm band” vibe Domum flirted with down with these trad tinged riffs shaking hands with somewhat-melosensible black metal. Slaegt just keeps on getting better (seemingly). 10/5/18 (KARHU)
